Categories list

Use this area to manage your categories: alter existing category, create new category or subcategory, delete category.

The categories represent a way of organize the products into the website to be easy for users (customers) to find what they look for. In other words, I would say that categories are the dedicated menu exclusively to products.
It is recommended to choose a simple and comprehensible hierarchy of your categories. Too deep hierarchy is not appreciated neither by customers nor by search engines.
You cannot create any product if you do not create first a category where the product to be listed. Before creating any product you have to create the category.
If you uncheck all the categories from a product, that product will not be shown in FRONTEND, because is nowhere to be shown.
Despite of its place in menu, category should be created before you create a product. Its placement into menu is due to the fact you will create more often products than categories. You can have unlimited number of products, but you need to limit the number of category to be easy to use from customers perspective.

Under Products -> choose Categories from left side menu to get to the Categories list. Here you will find all your created categories.
The Categories will always open with Categories list.

Page areas

  • Top line includes:
    - Name of this area: Categories
    - Add category button
  • The second line contains the Categories tree selector, Status selector and search box at the right. You can search a category by name.
  • Under the searching line is the place where you see listed your categories (main page content).

Filter data

To filter data use the second line left side:

  • The Category tree is the hierarchy of categories.
The categories can be built in tree structure which means that one category (the parent category) can have one or many subcategories (children categories). The children are listed under the parent category, but they have a red arrow before their names and are not aligned with the parent categories being moved to the left margin. If the subcategories are parents, their children will be listed further away and the arrows are doubled.
Choose the category which you want to filter from the Category tree selector. This filter will show you only the subcategories listed under the selected category if any.

  • Filter by Status. For example, if you wish to see all disabled categories, select from the drop down menu in Status selector the Disabled category.

Search data

Enter into the search box what you are looking for and press Enter key or click on green magnifier icon.
The system will look to match your search string in name of the categories. It is an autocomplete search box, it means:
- once you start typing will be automatically shown in a drop down all available options
- you can select one of available options and click green button or press Enter key; The selected category only will be shown in listing as search result.
- or you can anytime press Enter key or click on green button and you will get in search results all categories that match your search string.

To clear the search, click on white cross in red box (next to search box).

If you click on Show more button, another 50 categories are showing. Click this button again for another 50. Repeat as you need.

If you click on Show all button, all categories will be shown.
