Settings & layout - Email SMTP configuration

The correct way of sending emails is by using a SMTP services (such SendGrid) and not by using the website email. The Olala Shopping Cart is coming with the flexibility and possibility of setting up a SMTP server for all your email: automated emails sent by the system or promotional emails (newsletters). One of the advantages of using the SMTP services is that all your emails can be monitored. More security, protection against being considered spammer because all sent emails use the authentication details you fill in these area. It is highly recommended to use an SMTP provider. SendGrid is our first choice.

The "Email smtp configuration" area is the places where you input all your information regarding with the SMTP service you use. All information needed here are provided by your SMTP provider. The details you need to fill in this area are similar to information you have to input when you are setting up an email client.

To setup or change a setting, click the Edit button in line with that setting. A pop-up window will open to allow you to input your data.
The window has as title Edit setting to let you know you are in edit zone. Also this window always points out the Area and the Name of the setting you are going to change. The main point of this window is to allow you to write your details in regards with current setting. This is the only editable field. Add or make here the changes you need.
The editable fields in this area are: text fields and check points controller.
Click the Update button to make the change or click the Cancel button to abandon changes. The Update button and Cancel button will close the setting window and update the list accordingly.
The Close button (top right corner) has same result as Cancel has.


Use SMTP server

Here you can set if you use a SMTP Provider to proceed further with configuration of it.
The editable field is a radio buttons control.
If checked Yes button means that you use the SMTP provider.
If checked No button means that you do not use any SMTP provider. You will use the PHP email handler and there for is nothing to be configured further.

The edit window will close automatically after you choose your answer. In case you did a mistake, edit again and choose the correct answer. The setting will be updated automatically.


SMTP server

Write here the SMTP server you are going to use.

The input area is a text field.
To setup or change this setting, click the Edit button. Add or alter the input in pop-up window. Click the Update button to make the change and close the pop-up window or click the Cancel button to abandon changes.


Secure (none,SSL,TSL)

Fill up the type of connection you use. Write one of the three options mentioned in setting name: none, SSL or TSL.

To setup or change this setting, click the Edit button. Add or alter the input in pop-up window. Click the Update button to make the change and close the pop-up window or click the Cancel button to abandon changes.


SMTP Port (25,587 for TSLL,465 for SSL)

Complete the port based on connection type. Write:
25 if the previous setting is none
587 if the previous setting is TSL
465 if the previous setting is SSL.

To setup or change this setting, click the Edit button. Add or alter the input in pop-up window. Click the Update button to make the change and close the pop-up window or click the Cancel button to abandon changes.


Authentication

Configure if your SMTP server require authentication.
The editable field is a radio buttons control.
If checked Yes button means that you need to provide the user name and password in settings below.
If checked No button means that your SMTP server does not need authentication (you have finished the SMTP server configuration).

The edit window will close automatically after you choose your answer. In case you did a mistake, edit again and choose the correct answer. The setting will be updated automatically.


Username

Fill up the user name to connect to SMTP server.

To setup or change this setting, click the Edit button. Add or alter the input in pop-up window. Click the Update button to make the change and close the pop-up window or click the Cancel button to abandon changes.


Password

Fill up the password to connect to SMTP server.

The input area is a text field.
To setup or change this setting, click the Edit button. Add or alter the input in pop-up window. Click the Update button to make the change and close the pop-up window or click the Cancel button to abandon changes.


NOTES
In case you use SendGrid your SMTP server will be smtp.sendgrid.net, is on TSL - port 587.
You will find out all these details from your SMTP provider.
You can test if the settings you input here are correct by sending a test email. To test your email go to Tools -> Maintenance -> Test email system. Here complete the small form and click the Send test email button. The results of this test will be displayed at the bottom of the page.
